Educational athletics is rooted in the importance of academics. Without the student first there is no student-athlete. In our work to become the model program for athletics and activities our culture of excellence in preparation and performance in this area will continue to be a point of emphasis.

At Thompson Valley, we follow Plan A of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) bylaws. Students must maintain enrollment in a minimum of five classes (2.5 credit hours) per semester to remain eligible for participation in interscholastic athletics.  According to the guidelines of the CHSAA, athletes may not fail more than 0.5 credit hours during the semester to retain eligibility.  Those who fail more than 0.5 credit hours during the semester will become ineligible until grades can be rechecked at the CHSAA designated regain date.
 

Eligibility will be checked at the beginning of each season.  Fall eligibility is determined in August based on credits earned in Terms 3 & 4 of the prior school year.  Winter eligibility is typically checked twice, once at the beginning of the season for those athletes that did not compete in a fall sport and again in January after the completion of the first semester for all winter athletes. Spring eligibility is checked at the beginning of the season, credits earned in the first semester of the current school year, for those athletes that did not compete in a winter sport.
 

 CHSAA also requires a periodic check which is done on a weekly basis at Thompson Valley.  Athletes will be notified by their coach if they are identified as failing two or more classes during the current week. They will be declared ineligible and will lose one week of eligibility beginning on the following Monday through Saturday.  A coach may choose to have higher standards, but must, at a minimum, maintain the above policy.
